Crude Oil WTI Mini Futures Market News and Commentary

Crude Prices Finish Higher as the Dollar Slumps and Oversupply Concerns Ease

July WTI crude oil (CLN25) Monday closed up +1.73 (+2.85%), and July RBOB gasoline (RBN25) closed up +0.0374 (+1.86%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices on Monday settled sharply higher, with crude posting a 1-1/2 week high.  Monday's fall in the dollar index (DXY00) to a 1-1/4 month low is bullish for energy prices.  Crude also rallied Monday as oversupply concerns eased after OPEC+ agreed to boost its crude production in July less than feared.  In addition, wildfires in Canada have shut down some Canadian oil production.  Gains in crude accelerated Monday due to technical buying after prices crossed above their 50-day moving average.

Crude prices rallied Monday after OPEC+ on Saturday boosted its production beginning in Jul by +411,000 bpd, a smaller-than-feared increase.

Reduced oil production in Canada is also supportive of crude prices as wildfires in Alberta, Canada, have shut down almost 350,000 bpd of crude production, about 7% of Canada's total output.
